True Sport is publicly recognizing Canada Games athletes who are contributing to a positive sport environment. A True Sport athlete is one who embraces the Principles for Sport:

Go For It    O    Play Fair    O    Stay Healthy
Keep It Fun    O    Respect Others    O   Give Back

When one thinks of an elite athlete one often thinks of words such as work ethic, dedication and perseverance. François Hogan is an elite athlete who truly deserves to be thought of in this positive frame. Always striving for excellence, he has been a part of a Sport-Études program since Grade 5, an initiative that gives athletes a chance to dedicate significant time to their sport while continuing to excel academically. After competing at the Jeux du Quebec in 2001 in swimming, François continued to explore his athletic capabilities. In 2003 he again competed at the Jeux du Quebec, this time in athletics.  With these two successful competitions under his belt, it was time for François to Go For It by combining his talents to emerge as a triathlete. Since 2003 he has been training at the Centre national d'entraînement de Triathlon Québec in Trois-Rivières all the while continuing in Sport-Études.

This intelligent young athlete will continue his pursuit of academic excellence this fall when he begins his studies in Engineering at the University of McGill in Montreal. In fact, François is one of the first recipients of the sponsorship program created between The Bruny Surin Foundation and The Foundation for Athletic Excellence Quebec. The grant aims to help support young athletes in their sporting and academic paths.

In addition to his prowess in the classroom, François is creating quite a name for himself in the triathlon community. Having made his mark provincially and nationally, he is continuing to Go For It by making the jump to the international stage. After a sixth place finish at the Pan Am Junior Championships, François is now ranked 28th in the world in the Junior Men’s category. He is currently being touted as the athlete to beat at these Canada Summer Games.

The True Sport Movement would like to congratulate François on his inspiring accomplishments to date and wish him the best success at the 2009 Canada Summer Games and in the future.
