While most 13 year-olds enjoy their bikes as a means to reach the park or a friend’s house, Troy Henry has always knew his was taking him somewhere much more special. Now at the age of 19, Troy has been a dedicated cyclist for 6 years and he is no stranger to the Canada Games. Troy exudes excellence as he has competed in both the Summer (cycling) and Winter (speed skating) Games. 2009 marks his second appearance in the Summer Games.

Considered an ambassador for the Yukon by his coach, Troy is a positive role model who Gives Back by providing encouragement, support and mentorship to other members of his cycling program.  In spite of a broken wrist, Troy’s Go For It attitude had him winning almost all of the local events he competed in this year. With perseverance like this, it is no wonder Yukon has nominated Troy as their True Sport Athlete.

Troy is described as an outstanding young man who has developed into a fine athlete. “We feel he represents his sport, the team and the Yukon, excellently,” says Trevor Twardochleb, Assistant Chef de Mission Team Yukon.  “His gregarious, easygoing attitude mixed with an intense competitive streak and growing experience are aiding his development into a very positive role model.” With the fine personal qualities Troy possesses and with his capacity for athletic success, there is no doubt this young athlete will go far.

The True Sport Movement would like to congratulate Troy on showing through his actions what True Sport is all about and wishes him every success for these Games and in the future.
