True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge

Thank you to our members and the public for stepping up to support the inaugural True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge. Over 580,000 votes poured in from people across the country and we are pleased to announce that after 2 weeks of voting, the top cash award of $10,000 will be awarded to the Cornwall Multisport Club for their submission “The Heather Run”.

École secondaire publique Louis-Riel and Tae Geuk Tae Kwon Do received the next highest number of votes and will be awarded $5,000 each for their respective entries “Random Acts of Kindness” and “Welcome to the Neighbourhood”.

Based on the overwhelming ability of each of the 6 finalists to rally the support of their community, True Sport has decided to further recognize the remaining three finalists, the Moose Jaw Free Teen Swim, the City of Port Moody and the Selkirk Dolphins with an award of $1,000 each. All cash awards are intended to help recipients to continue to live True Sport in their community.

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), an active leader in the True Sport Movement, asked its staff to vote on the submissions and contributed an additional $500 award to “Food for Thought” submitted by the Moose Jaw Free Teen Swim.

“The CCES was so impressed with all of the Give-Back stories that we wanted to take this opportunity to give-back as well,” said Paul Melia, President and CEO of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. “We were moved by the creativity, inspiration and community spirit demonstrated by all of the challenge participants. The quality of entries and the overwhelming response received from the public is a testament to the power of good sport.”

True Sport would like to congratulate the finalists and to thank everyone who took part in the Community Give-Back Challenge and encourage all members to participate next year. Details and guidelines will be made available at www.truesport.ca/giveback in the near future.
