True Sport is publicly recognizing Canada Games athletes who are contributing to a positive sport environment. A True Sport athlete is one who embraces the Principles for Sport:

Go For It    O    Play Fair    O    Stay Healthy
Keep It Fun    O    Respect Others    O   Give Back

Chris Reid is no stranger to success. His accolades are as varied as the sports he plays. Chris attends St. Malachy’s High School in St. John, New Brunswick and has received both MVP and All-Star selections for his participation on the football team and was a key contributor to the NBIAA-AAA Provincial Rugby Championship title for his school. At the 2007 Canada Games, he placed 7th in the Men’s individual epee and helped his province earn the bronze medal in the men’s epee team event.  This year, Chris will be part of the New Brunswick Rugby team. Individual Excellence aside, it is his professionalism, leadership and respect for the game that has earned him the designation as the True Sport Athlete of Team New Brunswick.

Sport is all about rising to the challenge and discovering your own abilities and Chris’ dedication to success both on and off the field involves careful and intense preparation. This Go For It attitude is obvious to his coaches and teammates. He is the model of organization and consistently shows up ready for both practices and games. Always a positive and hard working teammate, his leadership creates an atmosphere of Excellence for his team to follow. He has, and will continue, to succeed in his athletic pursuits for Team New Brunswick; but it is his quality of character that makes him a True Sport Athlete.

Winning with dignity and losing with grace is a test of character and a sign of true professionalism and respect. Chris’ approach to not only his sport but his life off the field embodies Respect For Others. This is evident in his relationships with teammates, coaches, parents and opponents. As one of the leaders on the New Brunswick rugby team, he plays with a quiet confidence and encourages his teammates to stay positive and to challenge themselves to do their very best.  As a True Sport Athlete, Chris’ personal achievements are never overshadowed by his respect for the game and the success of his team.

The True Sport Movement wishes Chris the best of success at the 2009 Canada Summer Games, and in the future!
